The Sims 3 Legacy Challenge
Thank you for joining me on my epic journey down the road of Sims Challenges. In the ten years I have been playing this game I have never tried a challenge. With all the amazing additions in the third installment (STORY PROGRESSION!!) I think it would be very fun to try my hand at the Legacy Challenge.
My founder is Athena Hiersham and being a very strong woman, her lineage and bloodline will be traced through the woman. So, it will be a Matriarch family.

In essence, this is a challenge of rising through the ranks of the wealthy class. You begin humble, a single “founder” with meager funds. And hope that in 10 generations, you can create a legacy for this bloodline. It seems to me, a very long and drawn out challenge. But I hope that I can keep up and make sure I always get my pictures.
The rules can be found here. I didn’t think I should draw out all the rules since they were so nicely put by the creator of the challenge.
Optional Rules
The Matriach Rule – The founder is an adult female who can procreate, but cannot marry or have anyone move in. All the heirs must be female.
I did not want to have a family trait, though if I can get most of them to Love the outdoors, that will be fine with me. If not, a random assignment is also great.

Hobo House
As time goes by, Athena makes enough to start expanding her space and making additions that allow her to live more comfortably on her land. Instead of having to go elsewhere just to shower, or eat, or any other necessities. It took time and effort, and unlike her first addition (the original hobo living), this was a series of events that brought her to a comfortable level of living under the stars.
She got a bigger bed
A shower
A fridge
A stove and dining area
She was happy with her accomplishments
Hobo Living
Athena first arrived to a large plot of land which had an infinite amount of possibilities, but she had so little to begin with that her first choice was to live as a hobo until a time when she could expand. With a little help from a benevolent mentor, she managed to get some fundamentals, like a bed and a toilet with a little privacy.
So Athena began her new life as a hobo on a very very large plot of land.
She got her scary dark toilet
She invested in a cheap bed so she wouldn’t have to sleep on the floor
She even got an alarm clock!

Things get serious
Feeling bad that work had pulled her in so much that she could barely see Stiles, she decided that it was time things move forward. She called him up and discussed a proper date between the two of them, not him just coming over to “hang out”. So of course Stiles immediately rushed over! But he felt bad that he didn’t even grab her some flowers 
They talked for a while, but both knew things were different. They were happier and more intimate then before.
Until Stiles finally got up the nerve to ask her how far she was ready to go. He whispered in her ear, asking if he could at least kiss her.
Athena felt a bit shy, even put off a little. Was this all Stiles wanted? Or was it the need to be intimate with ONLY her that he wanted?
Stiles realized how this came off, so he serenaded her, telling her how she was the only one for him.
Athena finally felt a little more comfortable, so they retired to the bed.
After just talking to each other, she decided to take a leap of faith. She had insisted this be a date so why did she need to feel so reserved? So she decided to change into her pajama’s, which was actually just her underwear.
Stiles didn’t need a more blatant hint.
After a wonderful night and happy that she had taken such a risk, Athena still had work in the morning. But before she left, she was sure to leave Stiles with a passionate kiss.
Things are looking up
Things are beginning to look amazing for Athena. She is happy with Stiles who has been coming over often and staying the night. Things still haven’t progressed much past friendship. They have cuddled some and holding hands has become the norm.
She knows part of the constant sleepovers is because he doesn’t really want to stay in the same house as Tamara anymore. But she is just happy to wake up every morning next to him.
Her days begin to have a routine, which is a wonderful feeling for her. In the midst of the chaos that has been her life, she is finding some normalacy. A feeling that she associates with Stiles being in her life.
She works hard at her job, day in and day out, hoping that she will be noticed. She studies medical journals in her free time to hone her logic skill and even hones it more by playing chess as a stress reliever.
One evening, she gets a phone call from her supervisor, Morgana Wolff. She asks her her many questions and the whole thing feels like an interview. Confused by the ordeal, Athena just goes to bed.
The next day she is surprised to meet with Morgana, a woman who is usually to busy to even say hello. Morgana tells her that she has been promoted to Paramedic. A huge honor for Athena.
She continues her life, fueled more by this promotion to make something of herself. She continues to hone her logic skills by playing chess in the park. She meets a young man whom she begins to talk to and quickly becomes friends with. She is proud that she is able to just be friends with someone, when before she came at men with a romantic goal.
She enjoys the rest of the day in the park, eating a picnic and enjoying the nature. Then she falls asleep happy with her life and not even disturbed that Stiles didn’t come over that night.
Shout Out – The Boxer Rebellion
So I love Pandora, the online radio station. Not only does it really keep me in whatever mood I’m feeling like, but it introduces me to so many new bands that I would be lost without my magic Pandora button!
Anyway, so a while back while listening to my Coldplay/Oasis and the like radio station, I heard a band called The Boxer Rebellion. Amazing little song, I was happy to hear it, but I didn’t think much more of it. I also work for a Giant Green Coffee Corporation that released a free song of theirs via iTunes and so the spark was set.
But it wasn’t until I saw the movie Going the Distance – and this band was featured in it – that I got a larger exposure to them that made me compulsively go out and buy whatever I could of theirs.
So, lately I’ve been still listening to Pandora with my Colplay, or Oasis, or whomever, but I’ve added The Boxer Rebellion. And as I was writing up my last entry in the Hiersham legacy, I happened to be listening to an amazing song while writing up the segment of Stiles and Tamara’s craziness. Just thought I should share the song that made me feel inspired. (In case it stops working, look up The Boxer Rebellion – The Runner).

Stiles is a party boy?
Work and trying to save money just can’t keep Athena’s mind away from Stiles. She is ready to wash her hands of men when she decides to try and call him ONE last time.
He actually answers and he seems happy to hear from her. He is back to the same old Stiles she could talk hours and hours with. She makes a last play and invites him over to talk and he actually agrees. Now Athena panics, he hasn’t seen her in a while and she hasn’t showered, or shaved, or even brushed her teeth. So she pulls of an Olympic record for getting dolled up and throws on her only cute clothes.
Initially the meeting is cordial. Athena feels more confused. She doesn’t understand what happened to the happy and nice guy that she knew and had just talked with on the phone.
As the night went on they began to talk like old friends again and she relaxes enough to finally bring up the topic of where they stand. This upsets Stiles.
Fed up with how things have been going she doesn’t drop the subject and finally Stiles breaks down and tells her the truth.
Stiles has four roommates who he didn’t really know before he moved in. Blair and Cycl0n3 spent so much time together that it was impossible to get to know them. And even though everyone SWORE that they were just good friends, he was pretty sure that they were together. Emma made him nervous. She always seemed to want to please him and feed him. She was really pushy and it seemed as is she didn’t really care about him, just if he thought she was nice.
So the only person in the house he could talk to was Tamara Donner. They began to have feelings for each other and one thing led to the next. But Tamara went wild. She visited her old ways of partying all night and skipping work. She even pulled him into the crazy and wild lifestyle. They partied every night and had so much fun. Then one night Stiles didn’t want to party, he felt sick. Tamara was hurt and left anyway. She returned that night with a guy she met at the club and flaunted him to Stiles. So they fought and she told him they weren’t exclusive, she could do what she wanted and he should stop trying to control her.
He was so hurt by Tamara, but the worst part was still having to live with her and see her on a destructive path. He quit his partying ways and tried to pick up the pieces of his life. He didn’t think he could fall in love again and then he met Athena. She made him feel alive and happy, without the need of clubs or drinks or anything else Tamara was into. Athena was pure and perfect.
But Tamara was beginning to become too destructive. Her drinking was out of control and Stiles was her friend. He wanted to save her before it was too late. But Tamara is like a Siren, she drew Stiles into her lifestyle once again. Until one night when he heard Athena’s voice message. Hearing her voice drew him back to reality and he tried even harder to clean himself and Tamara up. He told Tamara that they could only be friends and only if she stopped partying and got help for her habits. So Tamara cleaned up and got back on the right track in her life. But Stiles didn’t know how to call Athena after everything that had happened. So when she called he had to come and talk to her.
Hearing all this hurt Athena and she didn’t know how she would be able to trust Stiles. He not only didn’t tell her any part of this, but she felt that he had cheated on her. Even if they hadn’t talked about being exclusive, she had assumed that she was with him and he was with her.
But they somehow manage to work through their problems and Athena tells him that she doesn’t know where they will go. She can’t promise that she’ll trust him or that their relationship will ever be anything more than friends. But she is happy to start with friendship and see where it goes.
Stiles is happy to take anything he can get, but his love for Athena becomes more apparent as the night goes on.
In a twist ending, Athena actually asks him to stay the night so he wouldn’t have to walk home so late and drowsy. They remained friends and he tried nothing inappropriate.
It’s NOT raining men
Athena takes Dr. Landgraab’s advice and she attempts to be interested in other men. But with Athena’s constantly busy schedule, her high hopes for herself and big goals, she has very little time to go out there and meet men in the common ways. So Athena spends most of her errand time looking for a man that she might like.
Unfortunately for Athena, she seemed to have terrible luck with the men in this town. She met a cute one in the park, but he wasn’t nearly as interested in her as she had hoped. Or maybe it was because she was so tired from being on call for so many days. Whatever the case, he ended up with the worst excuse in the book, “I have to go wash my cat,” and Athena watched him run away from her.
But something about this terrible encounter really made Athena want to prove that she could find someone. After deciding to be more approachable and being the fun Athena she knew she could be, she had all this energy. A trip to the pool seemed like a wonderful idea, especially since she had bought her shower, it had been quite a while since she had gone to the local community center.
When she got there she met the sweetest man, whom she had hours of fun playing with. They played Marco Polo, exchanged phone numbers and talked about her job to. Naturally Athena played coy and asked him whether he was in a relationship.
Alas, poor Athena was dealt another dud. This fun and sweet and attractive man was not only taken, but he was MARRIED! She was so shocked that she begged him for it not to be so.
At this point his wife came out of the woodwork to tell her husband it was time for them to go. Athena was crushed when she saw just what a stunningly beautiful woman she really was. She had a figure that would stop traffic, while Athena had a body that looked like they added boobs to a teenage boy. And her striking features just made Athena want to throw the towel in.
But at least she made a friend out of it, Right?
So Athena went home, hoping that today wouldn’t be a foreshadowing of her love life. Exhausted, she did what she had been hoping this day would end. She missed talking to Stiles, so she called him once more to hear his voice on his answering machine.
In the morning, she still feels terrible, but she wants to move on and feel something again. So before she allows herself to eat one more bowl of cold and soggy cereal, she runs to the store and spends her entire paycheck on a stove, a small dining table, and a chair. She then makes her first hot breakfast.
When she was at the store, Athena felt guilty for spending so much when she didn’t have a penny. So when she passed the Garden section she couldn’t help but stop and buy some supplies to start her own vegetable garden.
So after work, Athena spent the rest of the day getting down and dirty building herself a small garden. And for the first time, she didn’t think of Stiles.
Life Is Moving Fast
Happy moments for Athena. She got a promotion! Though she is only a bed pan cleaner, she feels that she is just one step closer to living the dream.
With her meager bonus pay, she decides that she needs to stop living off the community, and she goes to buy a shower. She ends up splurging (spending some of her money saving for a house) on a fridge. Now she doesn’t need to visit the pool or the gym every time she begins to smell a bit rank and she can eat perishable items! But sadly, her bank account rings to only $121.
As if this isn’t enough for Athena, she decides to spend even more of her hard earned money. But this time for a wonderful cause. She donates 100 simoleans to the starving artists fund and goes to bed feeling like an angel.
So between working hard to earn another promotion (or a raise) and trying like crazy to adapt to adult living, Athena barely has time to see her musician sweetheart, Stiles McGraw. She gives him a call with hopes of inviting him over, but he rudely tells her that it isn’t a good time. She doesn’t understand why he is acting this way because he is usually so happy to talk to her.
Confused about Stiles, she goes to meet Dr. Landgraab to talk about work, her life, and just check in with him.
After her chat with him, she feels more reassured with life and happier. He always seems to have a comforting affect on her. Though Athena is still upset over Stiles’s actions, she feels content with her life.
Sims 3 Generations
Since I’ve last posted there have been a bevy of new things in the Sims world. But first I would like to address the awesome new expansion pack coming out on May 31st, Sims 3 Generations.
What makes this expansion different is that each generation has a theme, like rebellious or mid-life crisis.
The most exciting things for me are all the interactions with the children and teenagers. In previous Sims (and 2), no expansion pack really made it fun to play with the kids. Yes, you could dress them up, buy them awesome things. But in the end, if you were playing without mods or hacks or cheats, you needed to give them some level of attention to keep a social worker from taking them away, and that was about it. They were almost a hindrance, at least in my eyes. Whereas now, with the expansion, you can send them to interesting boarding schools, which I am soooo excited to see how that is played out.You can teach teens how to drive, there are unique parties like Prom and such, there are after school activities. I mean, the fun in playing has been increased as well as the ability to create some pretty interesting story lines.
What I didn’t find comforting was the weird limitation of the themes. They took the most generic concepts about human growth and placed them in the game. It makes sense logically and technologically. But in my fantasy world where I am happy to live, I would like to be able to play out a thousand different scenarios to go along with my active imagination.
But all in all, from what I’ve read and what I’ve seen, I think this is going to be a very interesting expansion in the Sims series.
SocialVibe
